History

Wood crafting has a long tradition in my family. The workshop where we build guitars today was founded by my grandfather in the 1940s, so I have been connected with wood and woodworking since my childhood.  Like my grandfather and my father, I also learned the carpentry trade.

Since I no longer use the carpenter's workshop as my full-time job, I can now offer workshops there in which I guide interested people in building their own furniture.

"The best therapy against alienation and disatisfaction of modern man is a craft like carpentry".
James Krenov, Woodworker (1920-2009)

In this sense it is my concern to support people in the realisation of their ideas. I have often been able to observe that the smell of this old carpenter's workshop as well as the creative work with wood fills people with deep satisfaction.

Besides my love of wood, music is my second great passion. Ever since I held my first guitar in my hands, it was my dream to build my own guitar one day. Therefore in the summer of 2018, I travelled to Formentera and learned about this craft from Ekkehard Hoffmann and Konstantin Müller. My enthusiasm was great, and I was especially convinced by the traditional handwork without prefabricated parts as well as the excellent playability of the guitars and basses. It was then the concept was born.

Back in Mörel, I showed the guitar to my long-time band colleague and bass player Oliver and told him about my dream. He immediately shared my fascination. This was the genesis of moerel guitars. We decided to travel to Formentera together a year later. Eki and Konsti opened up the world of guitar and bass building in all its facets to us. It is also thanks to this friendship that we build guitars and basses in Mörel today.

With great enthusiasm we developed the first models and had them played by musician friends. Their professional judgement was clear: Keep it up! The first workshop followed, then the second,... and if you are in tune, your self-made instrument will soon be sounding in our workshop!
